Dandelion Greens are probably best buying fresh in the produce section instead of online, but I did find some Dandelion Leaf Tea that sounded pretty good. I think I could drink that over eating the greens before bed.

Doctor Oz noted that he’s not a big fan of the Pulque because of the alcohol. Fans of Dr Oz know that he’s not big on taking alcohol to help sleep, although for me personally, beer makes me tired no matter when I drink it. Dr. Loguidice agreed but said it was an option for some people. Dr. Loguidice said she preferred the oatmeal because it gave the best bang for your buck and completely relaxed the nervous system before bed… and that sounds like good advise to me.

What Happens: Acne is caused by inflammation in the body. Most people see this happen on the face area, but it can happen anywhere on your body, including your butt cheeks.

The laundry room has a lot of potential when it comes to green living. It can be a challenge to find ways to live a green lifestyle if you don’t have the money to lay out for extensive home upgrades. The laundry room is a great place to start thinking green, however, and the tips that follow will help you to make more eco-friendly choices when it comes to doing laundry.
Choose Energy Star Laundry Appliances
While it doesn’t make a lot of sense for you to run out and replace your old energy-sucking washer and dryer pair with a sleek, energy-saving duo, it is a smart move when the time comes. When replacing laundry appliances, look for those that have the Energy Star logo when you’re buying new ones. Energy Star washing machines consume only about 25 gallons of water per load, as compared with an average of 40 gallons for standard top-loading machines. Energy Star dryers also take much less energy than their non-energy saving counterparts.
Choose a Front-Loading Washer
Go even greener by choosing a front-loading washing machine. The front-loading washer operates on a horizontal axis, and this can save both energy and water. The front-loader needs less water to do the same job as a top-loader because the tub rotates, tumbling the clothing inside into the water, as opposed to top-loading machines that must be filled in order to do their job. R – Realistic. Make sure you are able to achieve your goal. Take your body weight and divide that by 100 for a realistic weekly weight loss goal.
T – Time sensitive. Don’t say “eventually” you’ll lose weight. Give yourself a timeframe.

I’ve heard of low carb dieting but haven’t heard of carb cycling. I was really interested to hear his take during this segment on today’s show.

- Don’t try to cut out all carbs. He said that we need carbs to fuel our body. In fact he said that our metabolism will lower if we don’t have enough carbs in our diet.
- Eating the right carbs is key. No, potato chips don’t count I’m sad to say.
- Open your minds to eating carbs every other day.
Dr Oz : Chris Powell’s Carb Cycling Plan
The first day on the carb cylcing plan should be a high carb day. The second day a low carb day. Repeat this cycle for 6 days. So, what do you do on the 7th day of the plan? Eat anything you want! I’m so going to love the 7th day if I decide to give this diet a try!
When and What To Eat On The High Carb Days
- Eat 5 meals every three hours apart
- Each meal should contain 1 serving of protein and 1 portion of carbs. As far as vegetables go, eat as much as you want!
Food Examples For High Carb Days
- Tuna
- Turkey
- Vegetables
- Rice
- Chocolate oatmeal shake
Low Carbohydrate Days
- The low carb days are the days intended to burn fat
- Eat five meals every three hours
- Most of your carbs will be eaten in the morning. Chris gave the suggestion to Dr. Oz a breakfast such as bran cereal, %1 percent milk. You will have all day to burn the carb intake.
Food Examples To You Eat On Low Carb Days
- avocado
- Turkey roll ups
- Zucchini
- Squash
The 7th Eat All You Want Day
You can eat whatever you want on the 7th day, but there are a few catches. Ya, I know, too good to be true right? If you eat at a restaurant, don’t bring food home in a doggie bag.. You will be tempted tempted to eat the remaining portions shortly after you arrive home. When your out in a restaurant order what you want but also be sensible at the same time. (Dinner shouldn’t be at Baskin-Robbins?)

There are many things we can do that lead to Better Health.
Diet, exercise, and adequate sleep, are just a few ways that I talk about quite often to help maintain your health and wellness.
A Healthy Diet can play a key role in improving the health of your cardiovascular system and central nervous system, and it can also directly impact your weight loss. What you eat can either improve, maintain or worsen your overall health.
Research shows that by including foods that contain pterostilbenes, you may improve your cholesterol levels which can potentially improve heart health.
What Are Pterostilbenes?
Pterostilbenes are naturally occurring polyphenols found in blueberries, grapes, and cranberries. These popular fruits are often used to make wine too. I would suggest a red wine and no more than 1 glass per day.
Similar to Resveratrol, pterostilbenes are thought to contribute to the “French Paradox” in regards to heart health. The French Paradox refers to the fact that people living in France that are exposed to high fat diets have lower cholesterol and deaths associated with cardiovascular disease than other countries.
Pterostilbenes, belong to a family of phytoalexins, which are chemicals produced by plants in response to exposure to harmful bacteria or fungi. Research suggests that pterostilbenes have the ability to lower lipid and glucose levels found in your blood.
They have also been shown as powerful fighters on oxidative stress (damage caused by free radicals) in your body. Structurally speaking, pterostilbenes are similar to resveratrol, but differ slightly in their chemical makeup.
This could result in pterostilbenes having better bioavailability (better oral uptake and uptake in your cells) in your body. Research also shows that compared to resveratrol, pterostilbenes live longer in your blood, resulting in better absorption and use by your body.
Pterostilbenes may provide many health benefits including lowering of cholesterol levels. They could also lower cholesterol by activating PPAR-alpha receptors in your body.
Pterostilbenes and Cholesterol
PPAR-alpha is a receptor found throughout your body. However, when PPAR-alpha is activated in your liver, research shows, it has the potential to cause oxidation of fatty acids, which may lead to lower levels of triglycerides and VLDL cholesterol.
VLDL cholesterol is a type of very low density lipoprotein (cholesterol) found in the blood that is harder to break down in the body. Increased VLDL cholesterol, research suggests, can increase your risk for cardiovascular disease and altered cholesterol levels.
Research shows that pterostilbenes can activate liver PPAR-alpha levels, therefore regulating your cholesterol levels. Both resveratrol and pterostilbenes are considered COX2 inhibitors, but that pterostilbenes could be more effective at lower levels, therefore potentially increasing its powerful health benefits.
In fact, a study conducted on hamsters aimed to determine if pterostilbenes is effective at activating the PPAR-alpha receptor, therefore lowering cholesterol levels in response to a high fat diet. The researchers found that pterostilbenes showed an 8 -14 fold increase in the activity PPAR-alpha compared to controls. They also showed that hamsters fed a diet supplemented with pterostilbenes, showed a 29% reduction in LDL cholesterol, and a 7% increase in HDL cholesterol compared to control hamsters.
They also noted a significant reduction in the ratio between HDL and LDL cholesterol. They concluded that pterostilbenes have the ability to stimulate PPAR-alpha receptor sites, and may be more effective at stimulating PPAR-alpha receptors than resveratrol.

Pterostilbenes are powerful polyphenols which, research shows, could hold antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-proliferation (the reproduction of a new cell) activity. They could act similarly to resveratrol, but may be more absorbable in your body, therefore potentially increasing its benefits in your body.
Adding blueberries, cranberries, and grapes to your diet, has the potential to provide your body with adequate levels of pterostilbenes, which may improve your cholesterol levels, therefore improving your overall heart and general health. The biggest excuse or not living healthy is I don’t feel like it. I don’t want to shop for healthy food and I don’t want to cook healthy food and I’m too tired to exercise. Well this article is for YOU if you fall in one of the categories. Dr Oz went to the best of the best and consulted with the greatest scientific minds to come up with a way to be healthy and be lazy at the same time.
